Helen Thomson is an artist member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists and the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA http://www.s-s-a.org/). Her specialist subject is photography. She has been learning her craft in landscape with master photographers and has had two of her images selected and used by Ordnance Survey for covers on their latest edition of Explorer Maps.
Her images of St Kilda have been chosen for inclusion in the official St Kilda Calendar for 2019, and feature on the Cover Page. Proceeds from the calendar will go directly into conservation and restoration projects on St Kilda.
Helen has recently exhibited with the GSWA in the Lillie Art Gallery, Milngavie, Glasgow, with the SSA in the Scottish National Galleries, RSA Building, Edinburgh - and in the Maclauren Galllery, Rozelle, Ayr.
Always looking for new ways of perceiving the world and adding meaningful value to the classic landscape, Helen’s photography has evolved to include ‘alternative image’ styles including ‘blurs’ and ‘multiple exposures’. She has been developing a new technique of hand finishing suitable prints with highlights in genuine 24 carat gold and sterling silver.
Her images are printed onto the best quality archival paper which last for around 40 years in daylight and 200 years stored in the dark. The texture and finish of the papers are specially selected to reflect the subjects thereon.
